Eddi Reader – Auld Lang Syne

The haggis, I thought, was lovely with whiskey gravey and stuff.  Kids thought it acceptable on an annual basis.

Here is another off Eddi Reader’s Burns album.  A familiar song sung in a not-so-familiar way.

Eddi Reader – John Anderson My Jo

(ah, nobody’ll notice….)

It’s Burns Night tomorrow.  I’ll be eating haggis and raising a dram or two.

Unfortunately the haggis will be veggie and the whiskey Irish.

Scottish through and through, though, will be the music – Eddi Reader singing the words of the man Burns himself, in all their joyous, romantic, rebellious and downright earthy glory.

This – John Anderson My Jo – belongs to the tender, romantic category; the love song of an ageing couple.

Burns based it, however, on a coarse old song, which has also been adapted to make it hilariously filthy.  It made me blush and laugh in equal measure.
